Inadvertent Extraocular Resistance Training During Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Refractive Correction at the Cost of an Acquired 21:9 Visual Field — A Single-Centre Validation Study

Journal of Refractive Reprocessing. 2026;5(2):e0118-e0136.

Spherical equivalent improved from −3.50 D to −0.75 D (p < 0.049, barely), and 71% of participants discontinued corrective lenses. The improvement was structural: the globe elongated along the horizontal meridian, the lateral recti hypertrophied (mean cross-sectional area +18%), and the vertical visual field narrowed from 128° to 61°. Perceived field aspect ratio converged on 21:9, scaling almost perfectly with session number (r = 0.97). Participants described the result as 'letterboxed,' 'cinematic,' and, in three cases, reported that 'the ceiling had gone soft.' No participant could subsequently read a vertically printed sign without rotating their head.
